The War of Seasons
The war of seasons happened a long, long time ago – beyond the reckoning of mortal ken. The Faerie courts of Summer and Spring banded together to battle Autumn and Winter. However, true to Faerie kind, the war was rife with betrayal and deception. As the war dragged on, The Winter and Summer Courts changed sides, banding together against the Spring and Autumn Courts. The Spring Court was caught utterly by surprise and was wiped out to a man – its kingdom and its Demesne destroyed.
It was thought that the Autumn Court was destroyed as well, and in truth it almost was. But the Queen of Winter had fallen in love with the Lord of Autumn, and she offered him an escape from the destruction of his court. She thought he loved her as she did him, and she was willing to risk her throne for that love. But the Autumn Lord was just playing the part. He saw the betrayal before it happened – not early enough to prevent it, but early enough to plan and scheme. He took the Queen of Winter’s offer, and became her secret consort.
Years passed, a fraction of time to the Faerie, before the Lord of Autumn saw an opportunity to exact some revenge for the betrayal and destruction of his Court. He leaked the information that the Winter Queen had taken a consort not of her Court, and set the Naga up as patsies. He realized that the Naga knew too many secrets, and that made them very dangerous, and he saw a chance to eliminate several threats in one stroke. When the news got out, the Queen of Winter was confronted by her Court. She was forced to destroy the Autumn Lord, an act which broke her heart, for she did not know that he did not truly love her. After destroying the Autumn Lord, she turned her attention to the Naga, who she now blamed for exposing her secret. She stripped them of all position and title, banishing them as a race from the domain of Winter.
